EDFS 1010. Race and Racism in the U.S.. 3 Credits.

Students will investigate the multi-faceted concepts of identity, racism, and the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression in the United States. Catamount Core: D1.

EDFS 1020. School and Society. 0 or 3 Credits.

As a foundational course in the College of Education and Social Services, this course investigates the interplay between schooling and society. We examine how children and youth are situated within the context of systems, including their families, communities, and the larger society, that influence their development and learning. We will explore the sociological purposes of schools, their historical development in the US, and the resulting inequitable impact of school organization and policy. Catamount Core: S1.

EDFS 1991. Internship. 1-3 Credits.

On-site supervised work experience combined with a structured academic learning plan directed by a faculty member or a faculty-staff team in which a faculty member is the instructor of record, for which academic credit is awarded. Offered at department discretion.

EDFS 1993. Independent Study. 1-18 Credits.

A course which is tailored to fit the interests of a specific student, which occurs outside the traditional classroom/laboratory setting under the supervision of a faculty member, for which credit is awarded. Offered at department discretion.

EDFS 2995. Undergraduate Research. 1-18 Credits.

Undergraduate student work on individual or small team research projects under the supervision of a faculty member, for which credit is awarded. Offered at department discretion.

EDFS 3030. Soc, Hst & Phil Found of Educ. 3 Credits.

Critical examination of central educational/social issues and values with special emphasis on the struggle for justice and equality. Themes include schooling and social class, race, and gender; the purposes of education; and the responsibilities of teachers. Prerequisite: Completion of a 2000 level course. Catamount Core: S1.

EDFS 3090. Intro to Research Methods. 3 Credits.

Seminars and research projects. Methods of historical, descriptive, experimental, quasi-experimental, field studies, and survey research.
