Academic Minors
An undergraduate student may choose to pursue an academic minor outside of their major unit. An academic minor at UVM shall be composed of a set of courses that reflect a coherent body of knowledge in 1 or more disciplines. A minor shall require between 15 and 20 hours of course work, of which at least 9 hours must be at the 2000-level or above. A minor shall require no more than the credit equivalent of 3 standard classroom courses (9 to 12 credits) of prerequisites that are not part of the minor, although exceptions to this rule may be allowed with just cause. At least half of the courses used to satisfy the minor must be taken at UVM.
Students may choose any subset of applicable courses from their transcript to satisfy requirements, but limits to overlap between major and minor may be established by the student's college/school. The grade-point average of these chosen courses must be at least 2.00. Grades in courses accepted for transfer credit are excluded in computing this average. Courses used to satisfy minor requirements may not be taken pass/no pass.
