Statistics Co-Major

All students must meet the University Co-Major Requirements.

Overview

The thirty credit co-major in Statistics allows students to gain a robust foundation in statistical methods alongside their primary field of study. It provides skills in data analysis, probability, and statistical modeling, equipping students to interpret and derive meaningful insights from data in various contexts. This interdisciplinary approach enhances the ability to apply statistical thinking to problems in diverse domains such as economics, biology, natural resources, or social sciences. By combining a primary major with a co-major in Statistics, students gain a competitive edge, making them well-prepared for data-driven decision-making in both industry and research settings.

PREREQUISITES AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students will be admitted to the Statistics Co-Major upon successful completion of MATH 1212 or MATH 1234, CS 1210, and a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Previously completed statistics coursework with a grade of C- or higher will also be considered.

Students first meet with an advisor in their home college or school to ensure that the co-major can be completed along with degree requirements and that admissions requirements are met. Students apply to the co-major through an application available from the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. Accepted students must also meet with an advisor in the co-major to outline their course of study.
